‘Birndany’ (stingray) earrings (mirror blue)
Birndany is the Yawuru word for stingray.
These earrings were designed by Yawuru-Karajarri artist Martha Lee.
Stingray are an important food source for Yawuru people and are nice and fat for eating in Laja Season, around October-December.
Mirror blue acrylic with a lilac organic circle and stainless steel post. The photos struggle to capture their beauty. They are bright blue metallic.
Approx. 8cm in length.
Nagula Jarndu (Saltwater Woman) is a not-for-profit 100% Aboriginal owned and managed art centre with a focus on contemporary hand printed textiles.
The earring designs have come from those textile prints.
The earrings are laser cut acrylics that are hand painted with stainless steel findings.
